Hats Off! Kéroul's benefit evening brings in $70,000
Chaired by Christiane Germain, co-president of Groupe Germain, Kéroul’s 2003 benefit evening brought in $70,000. Last November 25th, the 300 people at Montreal Casino’s Cabaret gave a strong helping hand to Kéroul’s mission of making tourist and cultural venues accessible to persons with limited physical ability.
Hosted for the sixth consecutive year by the inimitable Lio Kiefer, the evening’s well-paced entertainment moved smoothly from the silent auction to the Cinemashow performance. One of Kéroul’s guests of honour, Mrs. Nathalie Normandeau, minister of Regional Development and Tourism, spoke of the more than 25 years of special relations linking Kéroul and Tourisme Québec. Then, Mr. André Leclerc, director general and founder of Kéroul—accompanied by Mr. Mark Saucier, Hydro-Québec’s regional director for the Island of Montreal— handed out the 2003 Michel Charpentier award posthumously to Mr. Philippe Lapointe and to Mr. René Massé.
During their years as directors of Kéroul, Messrs. Lapointe and Massé contributed in exceptional ways to advance the cause of the disabled and the elderly.
Kéroul is thus kicking off the 24th year in its tireless efforts to convince all those involved in tourist and cultural industries that universal access is profitable. What began as André Leclerc’s dream of accessible travel for persons with limited physical ability is, each day, becoming a reality for almost 15% of Quebec’s population.
Kéroul wishes to thank the principal sponsors of this evening: the Montreal Casino, BFL Canada, Hydro-Québec, Transat A.T., the Société des alcools du Québec, Groupe C.T.M.A., Van-Action, Caisses populaires Desjardins, Groupe Germain, Dubé la Ciderie du Village, Unibroue, and Corpav.
