Launch of a Declaration of Commitment at the Kéroul Fund-Raiser
André Leclerc, Kéroul’s chairman and managing director would once again say how pleased and even overjoyed he is with the previous evening’s fund-raiser which brought in the generous sum of $125,000. The record attendance of 388 guests filling the Montreal Casino’s Cabaret is an indisputable sign of the growing interest in Kéroul’s cause.
Hosted by Claude Rousseau (first vice-president of Sales/Large Firms, Quebec and Public Sectors, Bell Canada) and emceed by the ever vivacious Gaston L’Heureux, this evening was punctuated by testimonials, speeches, a silent auction, the Michel Carpentier Award ceremony, and drawings for door prizes.
This year, Suzanne Chassé, a former assistant minister of Tourism, received the Michel Carpentier Award in recognition of her priceless contribution to Kéroul’s mission. Mrs. Chassé has, inter alia, helped to improve the accessibility of tourist information offices and to organize the campaign publicizing Kérou’s travel guide, The Open Road, outside of Quebec.
Mr. André Leclerc, CEO of Kéroul, expressed his satisfaction with the objectives set by AccessiB - The Open Road: "I am very pleased with the launch of this second edition of the guide. It will allow disabled travellers to enjoy the hospitality of accessible establishments whose owners have made the effort to adapt their infrastructures and train their personnel. Here's to a great tourist season for all you users of AccessiB-The Open Road!" he concluded.
The minister of Tourism, Raymond Bachand, who was unable to attend, sent a video message manifesting his support for the Déclaration québécoise concernant l’accessibilité au tourisme pour toutes les personnes ayant une incapacité which was launched during the evening.
The goal of the Déclaration is to act as a strong call rallying the various tourist organizations to take whatever concrete measures their means allow in their respective spheres of influence, in order to advance the accessibility of tourism for persons with limited physical capacity.
André Leclerc and Jean-Pierre Malo, chairman of Kéroul’s Board of Directors, signed the Declaration, followed by the first seven signatories:
- Association des hôteliers du Québec
- Association des propriétaires d’autobus du Québec
- ATR associées du Quebec
- Corporation de l’industrie touristique du Québec
- Parks Canada
- Société des Attractions Touristiques du Québec Festivals et Événements Québec
- Station Mont Tremblant
Gaston L’Heureux announced that the 2008 fund-raising event will be chaired by Claude Trudel, mayor of the Verdun district and chairman of the Société de transport de Montréal, who has accepted to take on the challenge.
The guests were then treated to a performance of the Montreal Casino’s Rock Story show featuring the energetic voices of Jean Ravel and Elyzabeth Diaga.
Kéroul wishes to express its most sincere thanks to the organizing committee, the advisory committee, the Montreal Casino, Aérports de Montréal, Bell Canada, Fin Taxi, JPdL., and to all the other donors and sponsors, for having contributed to the success of this fund-raising evening.
