Charitable non-financial donations

Rather than donate cash, some companies prefer to offer their products or expertise. For example, a company may decide to offer its graphic design, translation or consulting services, or donate items (e.g. artworks, vacation packages) that can be sold during the silent auction held as part of Kéroul’s annual benefit gala. In-kind donations are considered charitable non-financial donations and may qualify for a tax receipt. Please visit the Canada Revenu Agency [CRA] website for more information about charitable donations.

Tax receipts

Kéroul is a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency. Under the law, February 28 is the deadline for issuing an official tax receipt for a donation made between January 1 and December 31 of the previous year. A receipt will be automatically issued for all donations over $20.

Planned giving

Planned giving is a simple way to set up an appropriate gift (through a range of mechanisms) without reducing your quality of life or that of your loved ones. Fiscally attractive to you as donor, a planned gift allows you to show your support with a tangible gesture. It also lets you contribute to improving and above all maintaining Kéroul’s services.

A planned gift allows the donor to leave a lasting legacy. You can make a donation today that will only take effect at a future date, and still enjoy immediate tax benefits. Planned giving can take on many forms.

A bequest is a gift made through your will, in which you state your express wish to leave to Kéroul the gift described therein. There are various types of bequests, which may include cash, a percentage of the net value of your estate, real estate or tangible personal property.

Life insurance

The gift of life insurance consists of designating Kéroul as the owner and beneficiary of your life insurance policy. You can surrender an existing policy that you no longer need or a take out a new policy. This gift offers attractive tax benefits.

This type of planned gift consists of designating one or more of your shares, stocks, bonds, mutual funds or publicly traded securities as a donation to Kéroul. Since 2006, the gift of securities has offered enticing tax incentives: now, when you donate a gift of securities directly to a charitable organization, there is no capital gains tax to pay. If you’d like to make a planned gift, consult your financial advisor to ensure proper planning in line with your goals. Notaries, financial planners, tax experts and accountants are your best advisors when it comes to setting up—and drawing the maximum benefit from—a planned gift.

Your donations at work

Your donations are put toward implementing and maintaining Kéroul’s various programs, primarily research, promotion, training, and raising awareness among the owners and managers of tourist and cultural sites as well as the general public.
