50 000 $ pour le PAET, personne en fauteuil entrant dans un hôtel

Kéroul is extremely pleased with the Ministère du Tourisme’s announcement to increase financial assistance for projects under the Tourism Establishment Accessibility Program (PAET) 2017-2022. Tourism establishments will now be eligible for grants of up to $50,000. Since the program was launched in 2017, the maximum grant has been $20,000.

This increase means more tourism establishments will be able to upgrade their facilities to better meet the growing needs of clients with disabilities by earning Kéroul’s accessible rating or enhance what they currently offer in terms of accessibility. This additional assistance will be particularly helpful to establishments that offer accommodations.

At the same time, Kéroul revealed the 18 projects that have received financial assistance so far.

Since the launch in November 2017, over 90 applications have been received. When they were submitted, the maximum grant was $20,000, and a tourism establishment could receive financial support only once under the PAET. Further to the Ministry’s announcement, an establishment can submit an application with a proposal for a new project in order to receive the amount remaining of the $50,000. A project that is already supported by the program and that has received the maximum $20,000 could see the contribution increase to $50,000, provided the proponent submits an application and the project receives a positive assessment.

A word from André Leclerc, Kéroul CEO and founder

“I’m very pleased with the applications we have received so far. Given the increase in the number of people with disabilities, PAET provides essential support to businesses in the tourism industry seeking to upgrade their facilities in order to provide an overall experience that meets the needs of all types of clients. I would like to thank the Ministère du Tourisme for entrusting us with the management of this program, which will have an impact on the tourist services that Quebec is able to offer.

We hope that this helping hand will allow people with disabilities to enjoy a more accessible Quebec!”

A word from Caroline Proulx, Minister of Tourism

“This program, set up by the Government of Quebec, is helping the tourism industry meet the challenge of providing better services to people with disabilities. I therefore encourage all tourism partners to apply to the program to attract and receive more visitors. This will not only provide economic benefits for the destination, but will ensure that everyone can enjoy the tourist services that we offer.”

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PAET TOURISM ESTABLISHMENT ACCESSIBILITY PROGRAM

The Ministère has entrusted the management of the PAET to Kéroul, a key partner of the Ministère in matters of accessibility since 1987. The purpose of this program is to enable targeted tourism businesses to access financial support to transform or upgrade their infrastructures to make them accessible or to enhance the level of accessibility they currently offer. More specifically, the program’s objectives are as follows:

  • Promote the accessibility of Quebec’s tourism establishments to persons with disabilities.
  • Provide financial support for projects designed to transform or upgrade tourism infrastructures in order to earn Kéroul’s “accessible” rating or enhance the level of accessibility they currently offer. Such projects must comply with the Québec Construction Code’s barrier-free design standards in effect at the time they are carried out.
  • Promote responsible tourism as part of a sustainable development framework, in accordance with the Government's sustainable development strategy for 2015-2020.

Kéroul supports each proponent by visiting the tourism establishment to identify areas that need to be addressed in order to earn Kéroul’s accessible rating.

Please go to paet.quebec for details about the program and the Ministère du Tourisme’s website for information about other financial assistance programs for tourism businesses.
